Changing lives since 2015…

I have tried many different programs, classes, and gyms over the years -- and I can safely say that my time at Prepare for Performance is the most fun I've ever had in the gym.

Making strength training a habit is something I've wanted to do for a long time, but I have struggled to find my groove with it. (We all read about how important it is -- especially for women in their 40s and up.) I was having a hard time maintaining consistency with at-home video workouts, app-subscription programs for gym/home workouts, and large classes. I realized I needed to try something different.

Prepare for Performance takes the guesswork out of integrating strength training into my busy life. The workouts are thoughtfully and efficiently designed, modifiable to fit my body, and varied (never boring!). The small group training format brings the best of both worlds -- you get individualized attention from expert coaches *and* you feel an incredible sense of community working out with others. This is a truly welcoming and unique gym, and I am so grateful to have found it.

I am probably the oldest person coming to the gym, so this review will be of particular interest to other people over 55.

I have been coming to this gym for about 6 months. I started by doing personal training three times a week and now do personal training just once a week and small group training twice a week. This combination is very good for me as it enables me to stay strong enough to participate in the (less-expensive) group training.

My trainer gives me a great workout while being mindful of my limitations. Like a certain insurance company, he customizes my workouts so I only pay for what I can do.

For me, it’s less about getting results and more about the good health habits that I have now developed by coming to this gym regularly. This is not a gym where they just collect your money and send you on your way; this is a gym that provides ongoing support and encouragement via emails, coaching offers to help you with any challenge, and even a Facebook group.

Strength training is all they do, and they do it well, whether you are a young athlete or an older person like me looking to get reasonably fit and strong. There are a variety of class times that you can choose from every week. I highly recommend this gym. - Katharine Minker (5 stars *****)

I have been working with PFP since March. My online experience with PFP has been great and really helpful since the transition from in-person. The workouts can be very challenging and more effective since I do not have to wait around for equipment. I would totally recommend the online training class because of their effectiveness with minimal equipment and a small space. You can definitely benefit from these workouts to get you in shape! -Jame Ulrich.

I signed up for Prepare for Performance six months ago to help me stay in shape as a military reservist. The program is so well thought out to include functional and mobility training alongside traditional strength training and cardio. The trainers are incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, helping correct form and offer modifications as needed. The gym atmosphere is so pleasant with everyone supporting everyone no matter their level. I have no doubt that PFP will help me maximize my next fitness test, and keep me healthy while doing so. - Margo

I’ve been going to Prepare for Performance for 6 months and I can safely say it was the best decision I made in 2022. Over the course of the last 6 months I have lost 35lbs, countless inches, and more than 2 dress sizes. My body composition is changing and I give them all the credit. My off-the scale victories have been just as great having more motivation, energy, and a more positive mindset.

Working with Christian the last 6 months has been a great experience. I came to the gym out of shape, very inflexible, I struggled to do most workouts and I genuinely did not want to be there. Christian has been patience, kind, encouraging and supportive throughout this journey. His ability to push and motivate me has built my confidence at the gym and every week I can see small positive changes and gains that have been accumulating into bigger wins. Most importantly I now look forward to gym days and dislike rest days!

From day one Julian, the owner, has been very supportive and easy to work with. He helped me come up with goals and a plan of action to achieve those goals. Any health, food, fitness question or concern I’ve had, has been addressed promptly with ease and lots of knowledge. It is apparent he loves what he does and loves to see his clients succeed. You are in no better hands on your fitness and health journey than with PFP. You will not regret working with Julian and Christian and the rest of his staff! - Stacey

I have been working with Julian at PFP since November 2019. The transition from in person to online was pleasant once I got in the groove of the schedule and created space in my home to workout. The workouts have been great and the have really helped me feel accomplished after a long day. I highly recommend the workouts with PFP, they are different and challenging and modified to everyone’s needs. You will get so much out of the workouts because of the energy in the room and how you feel after. I have had 3 guest on the Zoom workouts and all have loved it and felt great. -Rina Chaves

As an individual in his late 50s, I felt that running (jogging) alone was not sufficient to maintain active form. A big part of feeling physically strong and active also depends on maintaining physical agility, including healthy joints, etc. This is what I was looking for when I looked at Julian’s training. Not sure, if transformation is what I was looking for, but I could feel that my body was not as responsive when doing physical exercise or even yard work. Stiffness in my bones and joints became more noticeable and increasingly a health issue. After about four weeks in the program now, I feel more flexible and also stronger in legs as well as upper body. Even though I jog regularly, my level of endurance has also improved, due to the mix of cardio and strength training that Julian offers. Much improved physically and also mentally. The training helps to maintain better focus at work and is clearly the reason why I find working outside the house much better and easier to take care of.

I have been working with Prepare For Performance for almost a year now. One big result of training with Prepare For Performance is becoming physically prepared for the High School soccer season and making the Junior Varsity team this year. One of the unexpected results I have noticed while working with Prepare For Performance is how fit I got and how much faster and more I could run for. My core is so much stronger due to this training. I would highly recommend for anyone to train with Prepare For Performance because it has gotten me in the best shape I’ve ever been in and I am now very prepared for the upcoming soccer season. – Nicholas Capoccia

I can’t say enough good things about Julian! We definitely hit the jackpot with him and in a very short time, he’s become a great trainer, mentor and role model for my 15 year old son who has wanted to increase his strength/stamina while working on his soccer skills.
Julian very quickly responded to my search for a personal trainer and was incredibly professional during our introductory call. It was evident that his knowledge of /experience with soccer as a player and coach would be a good match for my son. He also shared his philosophy about strength training with kids, specifically how he seeks to understand what motivates and is important to them, so he could then weave in his expertise which ultimately would result in a truly customized program to help accomplish their goals.
He was eager to “meet” my son and scheduled some time to speak with him personally over the phone and get to know him. I was impressed at how he was able to get from a 15-year old boy, what his fitness goals were! In less than a week of my initial inquiry, my son was training in the gym with Julian and has absolutely loved every session with him.
Julian maximizes every second during each workout and even encourages kids to come in early to get warmed up (so really, while you pay for a 60-minute session, you get 70-75 minutes!)
My son has already noticed physical changes, but beyond that, his sense of confidence, focus, and dedication has increased tremendously. Julian provides encouragement inside and outside the gym by keeping tabs on my son and checking in on how he’s doing. Even when my son tried out for another soccer team, Julian gave him sound advice throughout the process, acted as a sounding board, and alleviated any anxiety he had.
The investment you make in Julian goes far beyond strength training; you also get someone who takes a genuine interest in your well-being and wants you to be successful. He empowers you with exercises which don’t require you to be in a gym (my son did his own workouts during the winter break) and with general “life skills/lessons”.

My son has been training with Julian for about six months now. He’s a great trainer and very knowledgeable. He looks at the needs of each client and personalizes the workout to those needs. My son has gained strength and speed and his agility and stamina have improved in this short amount of time. Julian will train the client on the proper way to workout to prevent injury. He knows a lot of people in the soccer world and is a great source for networking. He helped my son find a new club after wanting to leave his old one. It’s been a great switch for him. Julian listens to the clients’ needs and is flexible with his time. I highly recommend him for anyone looking for a trainer. -Ruba
